Where it came from
The name was suggested by Dorian Taylor and shared on X by software pioneer Grady Booch on October 26, 2026. It builds on “slop,” the word people already use for cheap, mass-produced AI content. (Source)
What slop looks like
- Search results filled with AI-written articles that say a lot and tell you nothing.
- Strange AI images and videos posted in bulk just to farm likes.
- Fake product reviews and copy-paste “top 10” lists.
- Reply sections packed with bot comments that don’t quite make sense.
One piece of slop is harmless. The Slopture is what happens when there’s so much of it that finding the real stuff gets hard.
